Second Life

Second Life is a 3D metaverse with its own rules and currency. Your avatar can participate in normal everyday things such as having conversations with others, playing a game of chess and wondering around aimlessly. Your avatar can also do extraordinary things such as flying, changing appearance and instantaneously transporting somewhere else.

If you have ever experienced the mature world of Second Life it doesn’t take you long to bump in to gambling, nudity, hate groups pornography and multitudes of other areas that would be inappropriate for children.

There are however safe havens of G-rated content. The owners of an island can control membership and can set-up usage guild-lines. Islands are now being offered at discounted prices to educators. Students can visit museums full of art work, libraries, science labs, classrooms, and simulations. They are able to attend virtual classes, lectures and conferences with others from around the world.
